ES Ranganathan Commends ONGC's Inaugural Oil Extraction from KG Block as an Essential Step for Aatmanirbhar Bharat
India achieved a big milestone towards self-reliance when the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) extracted the first oil from the Krishna-Godavri (KG) Block. ES Ranganathan, a former Director at GAIL, praised this as a crucial step for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, showing ONGC's strength and India's commitment to energy independence.
This big step of extracting oil from the KG deepwater block, located about 35 kilometers off the coast of Andhra Pradesh in the Bay of Bengal, is significant. It comes from the 'M' field within the KG-DWN-98/2 block," said ES Ranganathan. ONGC's contribution of 7% to national oil and natural gas production strengthens India's position as the fastest-growing economy.
ONGC's use of advanced technologies to explore the KG Block's potential reflects India's progress in research and development. "Advanced seismic imaging, modern drilling techniques, and effective reservoir management led to successful extraction. Challenges like the waxy nature of the crude were tackled with innovative 'Pipe in Pipe' technology—a first in India," explains ES Ranganathan. This shows ONGC's commitment to improving India's energy sector with cutting-edge solutions, boosting the country's research, development, and technology adoption.
