ES Ranganathan Role in Advancing and Reducing Costs of Green Hydrogen Production

The cost of green hydrogen has been a major barrier to its widespread use. However, thanks to significant technological advancements and economies of scale, the price of green hydrogen is expected to drop significantly in the coming years.

ES Ranganathan, former Marketing Director of GAIL and an expert in the Oil and Energy industry, says, “To successfully compete with other energy sources and realize the full potential of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India must harness a synergy of technological advancements and regulatory support. This will drive cost competitiveness and accelerate our journey towards a sustainable energy future.”

Currently, producing green hydrogen in India costs about 300 rupees per kilogram. To boost green hydrogen production and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the Indian government plans to introduce a $2 billion incentive scheme this year. Under this plan, green hydrogen fuel producers will receive incentives covering at least 10% of their production costs.
