Water is essential for all life on Earth—humans, animals, and plants all need it to survive. In India, water scarcity is a big problem. According to a report by NITI Aayog, many people in India are suffering from severe water shortages. This issue is made worse by India’s reliance on an increasingly unpredictable monsoon season for its water supply.
Climate change is likely to exacerbate this problem, as more frequent and intense natural disasters will put even more strain on water resources. Farmers are particularly hard-hit by this crisis, which negatively impacts their agricultural productivity and income. Improving water management could greatly help them, and Rajasthan might be on the right path with its new digital water distribution system.
Dr. Subodh Agarwal IAS officer who has served as secretary in the water resources department in Rajasthan, shares some insights on this initiative.
