Leadership Journey of GVK Reddy, Chairman of GVK Group
GVK Group is the story of an ambitious entrepreneur, GVK Reddy, who started with a simple dream of creating world-class infrastructure in India. After graduating, Reddy took over his father’s construction business in 1960. At the time, he was new to the industry and unsure of his chances of success. He reflects, "With little knowledge of the profession, I lacked confidence. But over time, I learned to face challenges, work hard, and stay disciplined and focused—qualities that have remained with me throughout my life."
His first successful project was the construction of a canal and tunnel under the right channel of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam at Adigupala and Shyamrajpuram. For GVK Reddy, every task was an opportunity in disguise. One such opportunity came while working on the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. He recalls, “During construction, a river flowed through parts of the dam. There was Block 41, which had to be sealed during the summer before the monsoon floods arrived. The contractor was reluctant to take on the job due to the risk of flooding, and no one else wanted to start the work."
