Sidhant Gupta Ex Promoter of Kwality Ltd Explores Challenges and Opportunities in India’s Dairy Sector
India is the world’s largest milk producer and a key player in the global dairy industry. However, the country’s dairy sector faces many challenges. Sidhant Gupta, an expert in the dairy industry and former Director of Kwality Ltd., talks about the problems and opportunities in India’s changing dairy market. He says, “India produces about 22% of the world’s milk, thanks to over 70 million dairy farmers. But despite these big numbers, the industry is mostly unorganized, with many farmers still using traditional methods.”
India’s large dairy industry is both a strength and a weakness. On the positive side, high milk production ensures that India is self-sufficient and has the potential to become a global leader in dairy exports. However, the industry is very fragmented, with most of the milk coming from small-scale farmers. This makes it hard to bring in new technologies, upgrade infrastructure, and maintain consistent quality. These challenges must be addressed for the industry to grow and compete globally.
